The 48JZ offers environmentally sound operation that's economically sound
as well. Delivering cool comfort with efficiency ratings of 12 SEER
(Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) and electric heating up to 7.2 HSPF (Heating
Seasonal Performance Factor), the 48JZ easily provides better economy than
older heat pump models and many new ones as well. Probably the single most
important factor in that economy is the scroll compressor which is designed
specifically for use with Puron refrigerant. During the colder months when
gas heating takes over, Carrier's 48JZ operates at up to 81.1% AFUE (Annual
Fuel Utilization Efficiency). The Turbo-TubularTM
heat exchanger helps achieve that heating efficiency by allowing hot gases
to make multiple passes across the path of the indoor air.
