You’ll enjoy enhanced indoor weather with the revolutionary Comfort Heat Pump System™. Carrier’s Comfort Heat Pump System with our patented logic is a complete system that consists of an outdoor heat pump, a variable speed fan coil and our exclusive Thermidistat™ Control. These three components interact to deliver exceptional year ’round comfort. During the heating season, this system delivers noticeably warmer air to your living areas and eliminates uncomfortable drafts. During cooling operation, it can dramatically reduce the amount of humidity inside your home. Plus, you can enjoy more consistent temperatures, quieter operation and money-saving energy efficiency all year long. It’s exactly the kind of performance you’ve learned to expect from Carrier, your indoor weather experts.

The Comfort Heat Pump System delivers air that is significantly warmer than air delivered by standard heat pump systems. To maximize your comfort when the system first starts up, the Comfort Heat Pump System delays the indoor blower until the system can deliver warm air. This eliminates annoying blasts of cool air during the cold, winter months. The Comfort Heat Pump System also adjusts indoor airflow to maximize your comfort, resulting in heating air temperatures that are nearly 20º warmer than standard heat pumps. And, to ensure that you aren’t disturbed by uncomfortable drafts, the Comfort Heat Pump System delivers this warmer air at a lower less drafty speed. The result is a noticeably warmer, more comfortable home.

Temperatures indicated are for heat pumps without PressureGuard, a feature of our Puron heat pumps that allows for easier installation for retrofit applications. Temperature increases with PressureGuard are about 5 degrees less than indicated. Regardless of how cold it gets outside, this system delivers air temperatures above 100 degrees.

Even on the coldest day of winter, your system will continue to deliver warm, comfortable indoor weather. That’s because the Comfort Heat Pump System adjusts to changing conditions, inside and out. When the outdoor temperature drops, your system’s auxiliary heater is activated in stages on an as-needed basis, adjusting for the perfect balance of consistent comfort and energy efficiency. This is a vast improvement over typical auxiliary heaters that can only be activated for a short period of time at full blast, which creates wide temperature swings.

The difference in comfort levels is like comparing two electric blankets. A standard auxiliary heater is like an electric blanket that only has an off and high switch, which you constantly have to turn off and on to stay comfortable. The Comfort Heat Pump System is like an electric blanket that has low, medium and high settings, which automatically change depending on the temperature inside your home.

It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity – this old cliché is a reality when it comes to being comfortable during the summer months. Moist, humid air will cause you to be uncomfortable, even if the temperature in your home is set at a reasonable level. With most standard systems, the only way to remove unwanted humidity is to set your thermostat to a very low temperature, which often results in a cool, clammy home and high utility bills.

Humidity can also cause your home to be a haven for airborne pollutants that are too small to be seen. Bacteria, dust mites, viruses and mold are a few examples of items that thrive in a moist, humid house. Humid conditions are also ideal for the growth of mildew and the formation of musty smells. In addition, unchecked humidity can cause damage to wood furniture and floors. By controlling the humidity inside your home, you can improve your comfort while protecting your home and furniture.

Investing in a system that can maintain the ideal humidity will dramatically improve your comfort. If the humidity in your home is too high or low, it creates an ideal atmosphere for the growth of mold, mildew, bacteria, and viruses. The ideal relative humidity level for a home is usually between 40 and 60 percent. As the relative humidity in your home falls below or above this range the climate becomes more conducive to the issues listed in the chart. For example, bacteria has a hard time flourishing when the relative humidity inside your home is between 30 and 60 percent. At 60 percent relative humidity, conditions are such that bacteria growth can occur. As the relative humidity inside your home increases, the atmosphere becomes more ideal for the bacterial growth. This is shown in the graph by the increased height of the blue bar. By investing in a system that can control humidity, you can enjoy a more comfortable home and protect the investment you have already made in your home and its contents.

The Comfort Heat Pump System™ delivers exceptional, unmatched humidity control. It automatically adjusts itself depending on the humidity level inside your home. Most standard systems will cool your home and turn off before they remove the excess humidity. This allows the humidity in your home to continue to build. The Comfort Heat Pump System has a patented humidity control mode that allows the system to dehumidify your home, even when it’s at the proper temperature. This results in up to 30 times more moisture being removed from your home than a standard system. That’s over 1/2-gallon more moisture per hour being removed with the Comfort Heat Pump System.

The indoor portion of your Comfort Heat Pump System™ is a variable speed fan coil, which spreads comfort evenly throughout your home when running on continuous fan mode. Single speed fan coils can deliver comfort to your home on an “all-or-nothing” basis. You get either a full-speed blast of heating or cooling, or you get nothing at all. As a result, when the system isn’t running, warm air rises, cool air falls, and temperatures can fluctuate by as much as 7º from floor to ceiling. The continuous fan function of a variable speed unit keeps the air moving and mixing throughout your home, reducing the temperature difference from floor to ceiling to as little as 2º. It’s like having a ceiling fan in every room of your home.

When a system doesn't operate in continuous fan, the air is able to stratify, with warm air rising to the ceiling and cool air dropping to the floor. This can cause as much as a 7° temperature difference from floor to ceiling.

With continuous fan, the fan continues to run at a lower rate even when the system isn't heating or cooling your home. This keeps the air in your home mixing and can reduce the floor to ceiling temperature difference to as little as 2°.

Continuous fan will also reduce the temperature differences from room to room in your home. In continuous fan, the system will continue to pull air into the fan coil, mix it with air from other areas in the house and then redistribute it. The result is more even temperatures from room to room and between the first and second floors.

With a typical system, the indoor fan turns off when it isn’t heating or cooling your home. By running the fan in continuous mode, the system will continue to pull air from all parts of your home, mix it, and then redistribute it. This results in more consistent temperatures room to room throughout your home. Since every home is different, the actual impact of continuous fan in your home will vary depending on the air ducts in your home, how many windows you have, and other appliances you have operating inside of your home.

Continuous fan operation saves energy while helping to create better indoor air quality. When you team your Comfort Heat Pump System with an electronic air cleaner, the continuous fan mode will help clean the air your family breathes. The enhanced comfort and improved air quality are achieved for less than the cost of operating a single light bulb.

Carrier offers three different variable speed fan coils: the FK4, 40FK and FV4. Each of these fan coils is designed to communicate with the outdoor heat pump and the Thermidistat Control and will automatically adjust its airflow to maximize your comfort.

The FV4 is slightly different from the other two because it uses Puron® refrigerant. Puron is the globally accepted replacement for R-22, which is scheduled to be phased out.

Carrier offers the broadest line of heat pumps in the industry. Our premium WeatherMaker Two-Speed heat pump provides superior comfort and efficiency. We also offer the world’s first environmentally sound heat pump with Puron refrigerant to help preserve the earth’s protective ozone layer. Throughout our heat pump product family, you’ll find a wide range of efficiency levels and performance characteristics to choose from, including models that operate quieter than a refrigerator. Your local indoor weather expert can analyze your needs and present the product combinations that will help you enjoy the benefits of a Carrier Comfort Heat Pump System.

Carrier’s patented Thermidistat™ Control puts superior comfort at your fingertips. With Carrier’s Thermidistat Control, you take command of both the temperature and the humidity level in your home. It is available in either programmable or non-programmable models and comes with convenient features such as:
